Crumbly Apple Pie
Ingredients:
½ cup white sugar ¾ t cinnamon 1/8 tsp salt 5 cup thin apple slices (Granny Smith work great!) 1 unbaked 9" pie shell ¾ cup brown sugar (firmly packed) ¾ cup sifted flour 1/3 cup butter or margarine
Instructions:
Mix white sugar, cinnamon, salt and apple slices in mixing bowl. Arrange in pie shell. Blend brown sugar and flour; cut in butter (cut into pieces) or margarine with a pastry blender (or fork) until crumbly. Bake at 400° on bottom shelf for 35 minutes. Serve plain or with cream, whipped cream, cheese OR vanilla ice cream (MY personal favorite).

This recipe earned the Grand Prize at the Chatauqua County Fair and was entered by Mrs. J.W. Blount, Peru, KS. Discovered in a set of cookbooks I received from my parents for my 21st birthday. Favorite Recipes of America Desserts (one of five volumes), page172.

One of our three – Mike or Em? renamed this dessert Crumby Apple Pie at an early age. Every one loved it. I guess our linguist didn't hear the "l" when we said the name.
